Atlantic Airways are the national airline of Faroe and launched in 1987.
In 2006 they became a regular summer visitor to Sumburgh, twice a week flying direct to London. Although regularly disrupted by foggy weather conditions they continued the route until 2008.
In October 2006 tragedy struck when Atlantic Airways Flight RC670 (OY-CRG) failed to stop before the end of the runway in Stord (SRP/ENSO) due to the spoilers not deploying. Four people out of the sixteen on board died in the resulting fire.
Atlantic Airways replaced the fleet of BAe 146’s with Airbus A319s from 2012 onwards.
